Folk art painter S. Skye Vernon was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. After travelling widely and experiencing the bright lights of Paris, the calm beaches of Martha's Vineyard and the whale filled bays of rugged Newfoundland, Vernon settled in the beautiful Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia in 1997. While working in the automotive industry, Vernon began creating folk art paintings as gifts for family members. Vernon's artistic talent is inspired by a love of Nova Scotian animals, birds, flowers, and nature in general.
Nova Scotia folk art is respected far and wide. Although Vernon admires many talented folk artists who have contributed to the long established tradition of Nova Scotia folk art, Vernon is especially inspired by the life and work of Maud Lewis. Some words that have been used to describe Vernon's work include: whimsical, folksy and joyful. Vernon does folk art paintings in the acrylic medium.
